When creating a News item in D2L, you can save your message as a draft or post it immediately.

The ability to save a draft or publish is available in both the News and Discussions tools.

[Save Draft] button allows you to come back to the message later to edit it before posting.  In order to find a saved draft, look for the draft in the area it was created (News or Discussions).

News: From the course home page, select News or the News tool from the drop-down menu.  A list of posts will appear with the “status.”  Select the desired draft.
Note: Once you have posted a news item, it cannot be reverted to a draft form.

Under specific conditions, students will be unable to save draft of Discussion posts

If a Discussion topic has the requirement that “Users must start a thread before they can read and reply to other threads,” students are unable to save their post as a draft. The “save as draft” button changes to “loading.” While D2L signals that the draft is “saved successfully,” the “save as draft” button remains as “loading” indefinitely. And the draft cannot be retrieved. This issue has been reported to D2L.
For Discussion Topics with this restriction, students can compose the post outside of the Discussion tool and only post it when it is ready to publish.
