The D2L General Notifications tool enables you to:

  • Receive instant notifications about course activity, such as grades, new discussion posts, upcoming quizzes, dropbox folder due dates, and news items.
  • Subscribe to a summary of activity for each course.
  • Specify your preferred email address and mobile number for instant notifications. You can choose a different email address than your system email address.

Access the Notifications tool

Do one of the following:

  • Click [Notifications] from your personal menu on the minibar.
  • Click [Notifications] in the News widget menu.

Set up an email contact method

  1. Click [Enable email notifications] on the Notifications page.
  2. Select your system email or custom email.
    • The default is the email address linked to your D2L account. For ePantherID accounts, this will be your @uwm.edu email address.
    • Any user may select [Use custom email], and enter a valid alternate email address in the text field.
  3. Click [Save].

Set up a mobile contact method 

  1. Click [Register your mobile] on the Notifications page.
  2. Select your Country, your Mobile Carrier, and enter your Mobile Number in the form.
  3. Click [Save].
  4. After you receive a registration confirmation code via text message (also known as SMS) on your mobile device, enter it in the [Confirmation Code] field.
  5. Click [Confirm].

NOTE:

  • The user is responsible for all charges resulting from receipt of text messages from the D2L system. Check with your cell phone service provider to understand your cell phone text messaging plan.

 

Subscribe to a summary of activity

NOTE  You must set up your email contact method on the Notifications page to subscribe to a summary of activity.

  1. On the Notifications page, select the delivery frequency you want from the [How often?] drop-down list.
  2. Select when you want to receive your summary from the [At what time?] drop-down list.
  3. Click [Save].

Subscribe to instant notifications

  1. On the Notifications page, enable instant notifications for specific course activity and updates by doing one of the following:
    • Select the [Receive email notifications] check box to enable email notifications.
    • Select the [Receive SMS notifications] check box to enable SMS (text) notifications.
  2. Click [Save].

Customize Notifications options

In the [CustomizeNotifications] section on the Notifications page, you may select the check box to include your grade value in Grades notifications.

Exclude Some Courses option

  1. Click [Manage my course exclusions] in the “Exclude Some Courses” section on the Notifications page.
  2. Click [Exclude All Courses] to stop all course notifications –OR– click the [Exclude] icon beside each course you want to exclude. You can also use the Search field to find the course you want to exclude.  NOTE: It may be easiest to [Exclude All Courses] and restore notifications only for those courses you explicitly wish to receive notifications about. (See below for instructions.)
  3. Click [Close].
  4. Click [Save].

Restore excluded course notifications

  1. Click the [Manage my course exclusions] link in the “Exclude Some Courses” section on the Notifications page.
  2. Click the [Restart notifications] icon beside each course you want to receive notifications from, or click [Restore excluded courses] to restore all excluded courses. You can also use the Search field to find the course you want to restore.
  3. Click [Close].
  4. Click [Save].
