IMPORTANT NOTE: If activities (e.g., Discussions, Dropboxes, Quizzes) are linked to Grades Items, it is imperative to break those links prior to deleting the activities. Failure to do so will result in orphaned grade items that we will not be able to delete!!
 
Here are the instructions for deleting large quantities of materials in these areas:

​​Content

  • ​​Click [Content] on the main navigation bar
  • Click [Table of Contents] in the left panel
  • Click the small inverted triangle beside “Table of Contents” in the right panel
  • In the dropdown menu, select [Delete all modules] (see screen shot)
  • Content_delete_all_modules
  • In the popup menu, select “Permanently delete all modules, topics, and all associated files and activities from the course.”, then click [Delete] (see screen shot)
  • Content_delete_all_files
  • WAIT for the deletion to process (it may take a while if there is a lot of material to delete).

Course Files

  • ​deleted with Content in above steps

Discussions

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Discussions are linked to Grades, you MUST *unlink* them prior to deleting them, or you will be unable to delete the corresponding Grade items from the Grades area!!
  • ​Click [Discussions] on the main navigation bar
  • Click [Hide all Topics] (see screen shot)
  • Discussions_hide_all_topics
  • On the Discussions List page, click the tiny inverted triangle beside a Forum name.
  • In the dropdown menu, click [Delete] (see screen shot)
  • Discussions_Delete_forum
  • In the confirmation popup window, click [Yes]
  • Repeat for each Discussion forum

Dropbox Folders

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Dropboxes are linked to Grades, you MUST *unlink* them prior to deleting them, or you will be unable to delete the corresponding Grade items from the Grades area!!
  • ​Click [Dropbox] on the main navigation bar
  • Click the inverted triangle beside [More Actions]
  • Click [Delete] in the dropdown menu (see screen shot)
  • Dropbox_delete_all_folders
  • On the next screen, click to place a check mark in the tiny box at the top of the Folders list. This will select all folders.​
  • Click [Delete Selected] (see screen shot)
  • Dropbox_delete_selected
  • In the confirmation popup window, click [Delete]

Groups

  • ​Click [Groups] in the main navigation bar
  • Using the inverted triangle beside the Group Category name, choose one to be deleted
  • Click to place a check mark in the tiny box at the top of the Groups list. this will select the Category and all Groups beneath it.
  • Click [Delete]
  • In the popup confirmation window, click [Delete Groups/Categories] (see screen shot)
  • Groups_delete
  • Repeat for all group categories

 

Grades

  • ​Click [Grades] on the main navigation bar
  • Click [Manage Grades]
  • Click [More Actions] and select [Delete]
  • Click to place a check mark in the tiny box at the top of the “Grade Items and Categories” list. This will select the Categories and all Grade Items beneath it.​​
  • Click [Delete]
  • In the confirmation popup window, click [Delete]

 

News

  • ​From the Course Home page, click the inverted triangle beside the word [News]
  • Click [go to News tool]
  • Click to place a check mark in the tiny box at the top of the list of News items. This will select all of them.​
  • Click [Delete] at the top of the list
  • In the confirmation popup window, click [Yes]
  • If you have many pages of News items, you will need to repeat for each page –or– increase the items per page (right side, at the top of the list)

 

Quizzes

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Quizzes are linked to Grades, you MUST *unlink* them prior to deleting them, or you will be unable to delete the corresponding Grade items from the Grades area!!

 

  • ​Click [Quizzes] on the main navigation bar
  • Click the inverted triangle beside [More Actions]
  • Click [Delete] in the dropdown menu
  • On the next screen, click to place a check mark in the tiny box at the top of the Quizzes list. This will select all quizzes.​
  • Click [Delete Selected]
  • In the confirmation popup window, click [Delete]
